News from Ehiopia!

During the last week, our team took a village trip to the city of Awasa. But before we stopped there, we went a bit beyond the city to a "nearby" place called Walaika. We were warmly welcomed by the people from Light Gospel Church there, and they offered us housing on their property. In a time of vision-sharing and prayer with the church elders, we learned that we were the first guests they've had who actually stayed on their property and not in a hotel. And a couple months ago someone prophesied to them that many white people would come to visit their church. So they've been praying for that prophecy to really happen. We then shared with them that a couple months ago as we prayed for Ethiopia, we had the impression that we would be the answer to someone's prayer. Cool how God worked that out!

At the church, we did a couple kids programs, shared a few testimonies, and Carsten, Anita, Jorma, and Ticy all preached (but not at the same time). It was really great to be able to bless and encourage the people at Light Gospel, just to fellowship with them and establish good friendships.

From there we went to Awasa, where our main focus was to teach life skills to people who have HIV. As it happened the teachings we prepared - about how HIV affects the body, hygiene and prevention, and nutrition - were a bit shorter than we planned, so Ruslan had the opportunity to share a bit about Relationships. And after all our dramas, we had the privilege to hand out 30-days supply of vitamins to each of our HIV friends. Good that we could help them in such a practical way.

It's also crazy that we had running water for only one night through the whole week!

And now we are back in Addis ... where electricity is an occasional privilege, running water may decide to take a vacation, and mud comes in endless supply. It's nice to be back.

A few things you can be praying for...
...that God will continue to show us new things that we can share with the people we meet.
...that we can bear with one another and carry each other daily.
...that we can keep finding new things to love and appreciate about Ethiopia.

Neues aus Äthiopien!

Während der letzten Woche hat sich unser Taem auf den Weg nach Awassa gemacht. Bevor wir dort ankamen, haben wir noch eine kleines Dorf namens Walaika besucht, das ganz in der Nähe liegt. Dort wurden wir sehr herzlich von den Mitgliedern der Light Gospel Church empfangen. Sie haben uns auch eine Unterkunft auf dem Gelände ihrer Gemeinde zur Verfügung gestellt. In einer Gebetszeit mit den Ältesten der Gemeinde haben wir dann erfahren, dass wir die ersten Gäste waren, die auf ihrem Gelände geblieben sind und nicht in einem Hotel gewohnt haben. Sie haben uns dann erzählt, dass ihnen vor ein paar Monaten jemand profezeit hat, dass viele weiße Leute ihre Kirche besuchen würden. Also haben sie gebetet, dass dieser Eindruck sich erfüllen würde. Wir haben ihnen dann erzählt, dass wir vor ein paar Monaten bei einer Gebetszeit für Äthiopien den Eindruck hatten, dass wir die Antwort auf dass Gebet von jemandem sein würden. Cool, wie Gott das gemacht hatt!

In der Gemeinde haben wir dann Kinderprogramm gemacht, Zeugnisse gegeben und Carsten, Anita, Jorma und Ticy haben gepredigt (aber nicht zur gleichen Zeit). Es war echt großartig die Möglichkeit zu haben die Leute der Light Gospel Church zu ermutigen und zu segnen, einfach nur Gemeinschaft mit ihnen zu haben und gute Freundschaften aufzubauen.

Von dort ging es dann weiter nach Awassa. Dort lag unser Hauptfocus auf dem unterrichten von Life skills für die HIV Infizierten. Da die Unterrichtsinhalte, die wir über Hygiene, Vorbeugung von HIV und die Auswirkungen von HIV auf den Körper, vorbereitet hatten etwas kürzer ausgefallen sind, hatte Ruslan dann noch die Möglichkeit über das Thema Beziehungen zu sprechen. Nach unseren ganzen Dramas hatten wir dann das Privileg Vitamine für 30 Tage an jeden von unseren HIV infizierten Freunden zu verteilen. Es war echt schön, dass wir ihnen auf so eine praktische Weise helfen konnten.

Es ist auch echt verrückt, dass wir nur für eine Nacht fließendes Wasser während der ganzen Woche dort hatten!

Jetzt sind wir zurück in Addis…wo Strom ein seltenes Privileg ist, fließendes Wasser sich dazu entscheiden könnte Urlaub zu machen und das Angebot an Schlamm endlos ist. Es ist schön, zurück zu sein.
